Cuban national Henry Gutierrez Garcia was found by RGP officers in Gibraltar undocumented in late November 2017, but at the time, he was dealt with under the Mental Health Act and sectioned at Ocean Views.
In January 2018, he was discharged from Ocean Views and was processed by the RGP under the Immigration, Asylum & Refugee Act.
He appeared before the Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody on the strength of a Detention & Removal Order.
In the ensuing months, his identity was formally verified and this led to the Cuban authorities eventually issuing a temporary travel document to enable him to return to Cuba.
Mr Garcia was deported to Cuba via the United Kingdom on Sunday 13th January 2019.
