MAN DIES AFTER CAR PLUNGES TO SEA

A local man in his mid-20s died last night after his car fell into the sea in the area of Sir Herbert Miles Road by the southern groyne at Sandy Bay. The RGP was alerted about the incident at about 23.20 hours.

All emergency services attended and a rescue operation was carried out with the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service and the assistance of RGP officers.

The injured man, unresponsive, was found inside the extensively damaged locally registered car and was brought ashore. Despite resuscitation attempts by the GHA ambulance crews, life was pronounced extinct.

Early this morning the car was removed from the area for further examination.

An RGP investigation is currently under way to establish the cause of the accident. The road was closed for a number of hours while CSI officers and a Traffic Investigator attended the scene.

An RGP Family Liaison Officer is providing support to the family of the deceased.

A post-mortem will be conducted.
