Man sentenced for Controlling and Coercive Behaviour

42-year-old Nizar MAADOUMI, of John Mackintosh Square, appeared before the Supreme Court this week and was sentenced to imprisonment for two years and one month.
MAADOUMI, who had previously pleaded guilty to one count of Controlling and Coercive Behaviour in an Intimate or Family Relationship, was arrested on the 11th November 2024, and was subsequently charged with the offence following an investigation by detectives form the RGP’s Safeguarding Team.
This sentencing is the first of its kind in Gibraltar for this offence following the enactment of the Domestic Abuse Act 2023.
