Spanish driver disqualified for 12 months

A Spanish woman has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £300 after pleading guilty to a drink driving offence.

In the Magistrates’ Court on Friday 5 January, Melodie Jimenez Torrelli, 34, of La Linea, pleaded guilty to Driving with Alcohol Concentration over the Limit.

The court heard that, at around 0315hr on Sunday 17 December 2023, officers observed a Spanish-registered vehicle swerving from side to side as it travelled northwards along Europa Road.

The officers activated their beacons and the Spanish car was pulled to the side of Prince Edwards Road.  The driver, Melodie Torelli, had glazed eyes and her breath smelled of alcohol.

The three passengers in the car also displayed clear signs of intoxication: one of the passengers was holding what appeared to be a beer in his hand throughout the incident.

In a roadside breath test, the driver gave a result of 57ug so she was arrested and taken to New Mole House where she later blew 40ug on the evidential machine.
