Drink Driver Twice the Legal Limit Banned

A man has been banned from driving for one year and fined £400 for a drink-driving offence.

Fernando Augusto Dos Santos Raposo, 43, a Portuguese national, of Cumberland Road, was sentenced at the Magistrates’ Court this morning after pleading guilty to Driving a Motor Vehicle with Alcohol Concentration over the Prescribed Limit.

His arrest came after just after 11:15pm on Friday 7 October this month, when officers spotted him driving a Toyota Camry south along Line Wall Road at speed and veering towards the other lane.

Officers signalled for Dos Santos Raposo to stop, and on speaking to him, noticed that he smelt of alcoholic drink and that his eyes were glazed.

On speaking to officers, he confirmed he had drunk “four or five beers” earlier and then blew 73ug/100ml on the roadside breath test. The legal limit is 35ug.

He was arrested and taken to New Mole House, where he then blew a higher reading of 78ug on the evidential breath test machine.
