Local Woman charged with Child Cruelty

A 30 year old local woman has been charged with a number of offences including child cruelty, and appeared before the Magistrates Court this morning.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld exceptionally in order to safeguard the child victim in this case, was arrested on Wednesday 19th August 2026, after Response Team officers responded to reports received from concerned neighbours.

The investigation was subsequently taken over by detectives from the RGP’s Safeguarding Team, who executed powers under the Children’s Act 2009 in order to safeguard the child victim. A search warrant executed at the female’s residence resulted in officers finding and seizing a small amount of suspected cannabis resin.

The investigation culminated in the woman being charged with the following offences:

• One count of Cruelty to Young Persons

• One count of Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm

• One count of Possession of a Controlled Class ‘B’ drug

The RGP takes this opportunity to encourage anyone who has been a victim of abuse, irrespective of how long ago, not to suffer in silence and report the matter by calling 200 72500 (999 in an Emergency), or via the RGP's dedicated online reporting portal www.police.gi/report-online
