Cathal Yeats BEng MA

Assistant Commissioner

Cathal Yeats joined the Royal Gibraltar Police in January 1997. After an initial deployment in operational policing he joined the Fraud Squad where he acquired detective experience. This was at the time when widespread use of computers in business became the norm, having to deal with these new methods of communicating and recording information led to Mr Yeats becoming the first officer in the force to train in Computer Forensics. Following promotion he served in the Operations Division, Special Branch and the Criminal Investigation Department prior to being promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector. During this time Mr Yeats led the project to upgrade the force’s IT systems providing all officers and staff with email accounts. As a Chief Inspector he served in the Operations Division, as the head of the Neighbourhood Policing Unit and then as the Staff Officer to the Commissioner of Police. On promotion to Superintendent in 2014 Mr Yeats led the Crime and Protective Services Division prior to moving to the Operations Division. In 2016, as the Operations Superintendent, he led a team which conducted a major review which led to improvements to the Force’s working shift patterns and deployments. As head of the Planning Development and Support Division he was the RGP project lead for the Cyclops integrated IT platform for the criminal justice system.  Mr Yeats was promoted to Assistant Commissioner on the 9th July 2020

Mr Yeats is a Master of Arts in Enterprise Management with the University of Durham obtained in 2010. He is also a graduate of the 261st session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy 2015 and of the UK’s College of Policing Strategic Command Course 2018. In his free time the Superintendent enjoys camping with his family, he is also a keen road cyclist.
