Serving Police Officer charged with Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent

34 year old Brendon McDERMOTT, a Police Constable serving with the Royal Gibraltar Police, has been charged with one count of Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent.

He has also been charged jointly with 28 year British National Georgia LAFFEY in respect of one count of Possession of a Controlled Class B drug.

The charges follow an investigation launched in the early hours of Sunday 1st February 2026, when Response Team officers responded to a violent alteration at a licensed premises situated at Ocean Village.

The incident saw a 29 year old foreign national sustaining a laceration to his face which required medical treatment.

McDERMOTT was off-duty at the time of the incident, and was arrested together with LAFFEY shortly afterwards by detectives from the RGP Professional  Standards Department , who also seized a quantity of a Controlled Class B drug.

McDERMOTT was suspended from his duties following the incident, and has today been charged at the conclusion of an investigation by detectives from the RGP’s Professional Standards Department.

McDERMOTT and LAFFEY are appearing before the Magistrates’ Court this morning, Tuesday 31st March 2026.
