Statement by Commissioner of Police Owain Richards

Date:21st January 2026

No: 6/2026

As Commissioner of The Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP), I acknowledge the motion that was moved before Parliament this morning on the subject of Protected Disclosures by the Hon Sir Joe Bossano MP, and recognise the impact that raising such concerns can have on the wellbeing of those making protected disclosures, their families, officers who are still serving, and the wider community of Gibraltar. The welfare of those who come forward is taken seriously.

Some of the allegations referenced today were previously the subject of independent investigations. Other matters are ongoing and remain under review through appropriate processes, therefore, it would be inappropriate to comment any further on any matters that may currently be under investigation and/or the subject of a review.

The RGP is committed to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement, and will continue to address concerns through established governance and oversight mechanisms.

The RGP remains focused and committed to delivering its range of security and policing services on a daily basis, as well as maintaining and strengthening public trust through integrity, fairness and openness.

Since my arrival in Gibraltar last July, I have witnessed a strong and committed RGP workforce comprising officers and police support staff, who continue to strive daily to keep Gibraltar safe.
