37 year old RGP Inspector Sean PICTON, and 38 year old former RGP officer Antony Charles BOLAÑOS, appeared before the Supreme Court this morning and ordered to each pay a fine of £2,500 in respect of one count of Obtaining Personal Data, and each fined an additional £2,500 in respect of one count of Disclosure of Personal Data.
Both were originally charged in February 2024 following an RGP investigation, and entered guilty pleas on the 22nd January 2026.
Commissioner Owain Richards said:
“The public has a right to expect that sensitive information held by the police is treated with the highest levels of confidentiality. Accessing or sharing such data without a legitimate policing purpose is a serious breach of duty and an abuse of position.
The integrity of our service relies upon the professionalism of our officers and staff. Any individual who fails to uphold these core values will be subject to stringent disciplinary or legal action.
Today’s sentencing serves as a clear reminder that anyone who fails to uphold legal data protection standards will be held accountable.”
