Drink Driver is Banned, Fined and Given Three Points on his Licence

A local man who was caught drink driving on Saturday lost his driving licence in the Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday).

Jairon Guest, 18, of Calpe Road, was fined £400, disqualified from driving for 12 months and was given 3 points on his licence.

The court heard that, at around 0300 on Saturday 17 June, officers observed a motorcycle contravening a traffic sign on Ragged Staff Road.

When the vehicle stopped, the rider was unbalanced and seemingly unable to walk without stumbling.  Furthermore, officers could smell alcohol on his breath.  In a roadside breath test, he blew 66ug.

He was arrested and taken to New Mole House police station where he blew 61 on the evidential equipment.  Subsequent checks showed that the motorcycle’s MVT had expired in 2021 and that, despite only having a learner’s licence, Guest was riding his motorcycle without displaying ‘L plates.’

An RGP spokesperson, said: “If anyone has concerns about a person driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you can call the RGP in confidence on 200 72500 or 199 in emergencies.

“You could help save someone’s life.”
